SYLLABUS
CLASS INFO
6th Grade Math is a challenging course designed to provide a rigorous curriculum for all students. The mastery of mathematics is developmental with one skill building on the previous skill. As a result, it is necessary for students to complete their homework every night. I will be available to provide help for students each day at 7:30 a.m. If your child needs assistance, they can click on the math 6 blog and ask a question, email me, or come in before school. As we transition to Common Core State Standards, students will be expected to explain their solution by writing constructed response answers on assignments and tests. I believe your son or daughter can be successful in mathematics this year by coming to class prepared to work, by doing all of the required work, and by following the class rules. Here are some of the procedures and rules that will help each student have a positive learning environment. Please contact me any time with questions.
MATERIALS NEEDED
ASSIGNMENTS
Homework is given daily and should be turned in on the date due. All assignments must have student’s full heading in order to receive credit. You are expected to turn in all homework on time. All homework must be DONE IN PENCIL, corrected in pen, and ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN in order to receive credit. If absent, students must turn in make-up work within the time allowed. It is the student’s responsibility to get the homework from the posted assignment log in class.
TESTS, QUIZZES, and COMMON ASSESSMENTS
Quizzes are given weekly (usually Friday) and may not be made-up for any reason, even absence. The missing score will be determined by the score on your next test. If you get a “B” on the next test, you will receive a “B” on the missing quiz. Tests are given at the middle and end of every chapter. Arrangements should be made with the teacher to make-up tests if absent. It is your responsibility to make arrangements for make-up tests. Students will often be able to complete quiz and test corrections to help them understand the concepts that they struggled with on the test. Students will receive .25 points for showing their work and answering the questions correctly. Throughout the year, all 6th grader students will take the same common assessments. These results will be used to determine student strengths and weaknesses. A letter will be sent home to parents indicating areas that your student struggled with. I will also list specific days and times where your student can go to re-learn those concepts.
